How long should it take to issue an SSL Certificate?
There are two types of certificate that you can use - High Assurance or Low Assurance. The validation process will affect how long it takes for the SSL Provider to deliver your SSL Certificate. Low Assurance providers compromise the level of validation in return for an increase issuance speed which is false economy if you wish customers to trust you. Low Assurance providers such as GeoTrust and GoDaddy issue certificates immediately. High Assurance providers such as VeriSign, Thawte & Entrust by using traditional manual validation processes are able to issue most applications within 2 working days.
High Assurance provider Comodo by contrast, uses IdAuthority (the real-time identity infrastructure provider) to expedite the issuance process without compromising on validation. Most Comodo applications are therefore issued in minutes.
